There are many reasons to upgrade to a custom frame and the argument can be made that any rider will benefit by choosing custom. A custom frame is built to fit you exactly—so that you truly have the experience of becoming one with the bike. The most important dimension, the top tube, is dialed in to give you a perfect fit and ideal weight distribution—so critical to the way the bike rides and handles. The frame geometry is tailored to your preference for quicker or more stable handling, and tubing diameter and wall thickness is tailored to your weight and intended usage. These are not small advantages over a mass produced frame—they are huge advantages—which is why my custom bike owners say that their bikes are a joy to ride.
Most of my clients are very experienced cyclists or triathletes, and many of them now own two or more of my frames. Some of these riders are ex-Olympians or current National Team members. Some of them work for other bike companies. Read what they say (testimonials).
When I fit you to your bike I will take many factors into consideration, using a full set of body measurements to determine any anomalies, and then do a dynamic fit using a computrainer-equipped Serotta size-cycle. This allows instant adjustment and the ability to quantify changes in efficiency and power output. Bike fit has received a lot of attention in the past few years and there are "experts" at every shop it seems. In reality there are only a few people in the country who have the experience and background to fully understand all the tradeoffs and explain and demonstrate them to you. I consider myself one of these few.
I am now located on the big island of Hawaii, so if accessibility is a concern, I am now offering two nights paid at the Hilton Waikoloa Village for anyone traveling to Kona to be fit for a new Huberbike or Serotta.
